Rear Projection Screening

This is a response to the proposed idea of "projecting people onto still images of the gold coast in a mall type environment". We have researched technology that would be required to do this and have been unable to come up with a solution. This is due to the inability to seperate a live image from a still background image. However we have a new concept that you might like to consider. Still based in a mall type situation where punters can have their photo taken against a backdrop of the beautiful Gold Coast, then using software to transfer and print the image in a postcard format. The punter are then able to take this "postcard" away with them and send it on to whomever they choose, publicising the Gold Coast wherever it goes because of the novelty factor. What do you think? Add a slogan? or a logo.. something Gold Coast..

  1. This is a good way of getting the Gold Coast 'out there', although its a bit of a novelty, i think it will work for sure.- Michelle-

  2. What a shame that technology is not there yet but I'm sure its not far away, thanks for looking into it Tech Team. Not sure how effective the postcard would be with the way digital photography has gone and tourists now downloading their photos onto facebook straight away whilst still on holidays. Maybe if it was set up in the mall at the Gold Coast for them to send it on as a postcard via the post or email, I know I still buy post cards but no where near as much due to facebook.

  5. With regard to the projected images, we will let people put themselves into the mediums we do run with. Thanks for eliminating the Interactive Projection as it cannot meet the brief - be sourced and installed within timeframe.
The booth version would work at a different level to our input on this campaign. There would be fewer numbers able to access the service than say billboards, and even less bothering to interrupt their schedule to physically receive the actual advert. Nice idea, just not something we will take to the client. Looks like any connection to the audience will need to be achieved through engaging imagery and emotive wording. Ta

  6. Print media is still good just like books. Everybody including me likes receiving mail in the post - it's a relief from the ugly bill. Not all of us like facebook and having to check emails.

  7. I really like this idea! I agree that, yes the internet with the emails, facebook and myspace is becoming more and more popular, but why not bring back the postcard? Make it trendy again. Everyone loves to receive a postcard in the mail! It gives tourists something to take away with them, and remind them of how much fun they had! Whether they stick it on the fridge or send it on, it's a great way of promoting the Gold Coast, as it reminds them of the trip, and makes them want to visit again! Thanks, Jess Edwards.

  8. I also agree, receiving something in the mail is always a surprise! with all the technology out there we rarely receive any 'mail' as its all done electronically. my only thought is, post cards to me seem very touristy!? i dont really think you would get a local australian using them? even if they were travelling from a different city. coming from a foreigners point of view, when i came here on holiday- i definitly used and bought post cards, but now having lived here for 3 years, i dont think i would. i would be interested to see what other people thought? -Robyn

  9. I agree with you Robyn that it might only work on tourists.. A different method may need to be used on the locals? Maybe when getting these images done, there could be an options of whether you wanted a printed postcard, or get it emailed or posted on a website where you could retrieve it? Jess Edwards

  10. i like that idea you have come up with.... i think the fact that they are given something to walk away with or to receive in the mail a few weeks latter will make people think about what we are trying to sell. more so then if they are handed a piece of paper to go home and download the image... but saying that there are people out there who have lots of time and could go home and download the image off a website like what you do these days with the photos that are taken in night clubs. i think that this idea could work as there are so many things you could do with the photo once it has been taken and is good getting everyday people involved with the advertising.

I think the combination of print media and digital media will work quite effectively.
